The MPOs of South Africa were firmly established features of the postal administration.
Unlike British MPOs (which provided temporary facilities at Agricultural and other outdoor shows, Race meetings, lawn tennis championships etc) the MPOs were on permanent duty in the larger cities, and they worked to a definite fixed route and timetable.
They operated mainly around the suburbs, providing postal facilities where local normal facilities are not considered adequate or are somewhat inaccessible.
